End-user computing (EUC) is one of the most exciting areas of technology to be involved in. It impacts almost every worker in every organisation, many of the world’s biggest technology companies are key players, and innovations are around every corner.
EUC is also an area of technology that never stands still. Here are the EUC trends you should look out for in 2025.
Application Management Modernisation
We are at the cusp of an application management modernisation revolution, with developments over the last number of months making the prospect easier and more viable than ever before. The decision by Microsoft to keep App-V has given organisations space to modernise to achieve the best results rather than modernising because of an arbitrary deadline. Meanwhile, the opening up of app attach to Microsoft competitors Liquidware, Numecent, and Omnissa has greatly expanded the options that are available. These developments and more mean 2025 will be the year of growing application management choice.
Large migrations are in play for a range of companies with the Windows 10 end-of-life date (EOL) rapidly approaching in Q4 2025 alongside the growing enthusiasm for desktop-as-a-service (DaaS) solutions, particularly Windows 365.
Access IT Automation is also contributing to the growing application management modernisation revolution with the continued development of our API-driven automation tools and groundbreaking capabilities such as evergreen application management. At the heart of this revolution will be the move to modern packaging formats and delivery mechanisms, especially those that offer enhanced flexibility and integration.
The Self-Service User and Driving DEX Improvements
One of the main priorities and key objectives of EUC technologies is to improve the digital employee experience – DEX. Self-service solutions are going to become an increasingly important part of this equation.
With products like Access Symphony, employees can fix common technical issues, access apps, download documents, and more without having to wait for a support ticket response, the phone to be answered, or an email reply.
And the technology works. In fact, it is the lowest of low-hanging DEX fruits, so we expect more and more companies to implement self-service EUC technologies throughout 2025.
Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) Will Go from Strength to Strength
AVD solidified its position as the leader in the VDI (virtual desktop infrastructure) field in 2024, and we see no reason why that will change in 2025. In fact, Microsoft looks set to strengthen its position as it continues to innovate not just in AVD technologies and functionality, but also in areas like licensing, pricing, integrations, and policies.
Windows 365 Will Also Increase Its Dominance
Microsoft’s DaaS alternative to VDI/AVD, Windows 365, also had a bumper year in 2024. Most industry watchers expect that to remain the case in 2025 as more and more organisations move users to the Windows 365 platform.
Organisations making the decision to move users to Windows 365 are motivated by a range of reasons, not least the impending EOL date for Windows 10 (see below). Attractive pricing models and simplified management are also motivating factors.
The Arrival of Windows 11 – Finally
We have mentioned the Windows 10 EOL date a couple of times already in this blog and rightly so as it is one of the big events happening in the EUC space in 2025.
Organisations will have to make a decision. Some will choose to take advantage of Microsoft’s Extended Security Updates for Windows 10 to buy a bit more time. Many, however, will make the switch to Windows 11.
Continued Growth of Intune
Another clear winner in the EUC space over the past year or two is Intune. It is a platform that is increasingly popular with companies because of its ease of use and adaptability to modern IT and business requirements. Migrations to Windows 11 are also a factor as organisations seek consolidation and simplification as part of the process.
Finally, the Speed of Change Will Remain Rapid
The speed of change in the EUC space is nothing short of rapid. For example, if this blog had been written three months ago, we would be telling you about the significance of the looming EOL deadline for app attach, but that deadline no longer applies. Similarly, Google searches for Windows 11 migration considerations still often display results about workarounds for Microsoft’s TPM 2.0 chip hardware requirement – workarounds that Microsoft has now prevented.
EUC is certainly an area of technology that keeps you on your toes, and we can’t wait to see what is in store in 2025 on the technology and innovation front (including from our own great team of developers), as well as the projects we will embark on with our clients.
