Application management took centre stage in Utrecht in the Netherlands earlier this month, and it didn’t disappoint. AppManagEvent is unique in Europe as it is one of the only events focused primarily on application management. The Access IT Automation team described the experience as a “blast” with excellent management and a fantastic buzz the entire day.
Access IT Automation took part in AppManagEvent as a Gold Partner with a stand showcasing our products and a speaking slot where the team did a live application packaging, testing, and publishing demonstration.
“It can be tough to demonstrate automation,” said David Butler-McAllister, Access IT Automation Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer. “Automated tasks typically happen in the background to free up resources to get on with other things. That’s the case with our product, Access Capture, as it simply gets on with the job of packaging, testing, and publishing hundreds or even thousands of apps at once with minimal human interaction.
“But we were at AppManagEvent, so it was important to visually demonstrate the power and capabilities of automated application management. Lorraine (Our End User Computing SME) and I managed to deliver a 45-minute live demonstration of Access Capture thanks to our fantastic development team managed by Nik Maloney who added some great new features especially for the Utrecht event.
“Those features visualised the automation in real-time with everything streamed in a read-only RDP [remote desktop protocol] in a browser session for each machine!”
Evergreen IT
The Access IT Automation demonstration by David and Lorraine not only showed the power of automation – it also demonstrated the potential of evergreen IT.
David said: “Evergreen IT is a concept that has been around for a while now, but it hasn’t really taken off in a big way. There are a number of reasons for that, but I really feel we are entering the evergreen IT era, and we were able to demonstrate that at AppManagEvent.
“Our live demonstration involved the packaging, testing, and publishing of six common and frequently updated applications. The demonstration showed how Access Capture can automate the process of identifying the release of a new app update, accessing the latest version of the app from a public repository, and delivering it in a modern packaging format such as FlexApp One from Liquidware.
“This is a relatively new capability in Access Capture, so being able to demonstrate it at AppManagEvent really showcased our commitment to ongoing product development.
“More importantly, it demonstrated how fearless you can be as an IT professional by taking automation to another level – the evergreen IT level – in relation to application packaging, testing, and publishing.”
Best App Management Event Ever
The Access IT Automation stand at AppManagEvent was busy throughout the day, with the team describing the event as one of the best they have attended.
David said: “Many of the people who stopped by our booth were looking for demonstrations of our APIs in action. We had great conversations about application management for modern packaging formats and for delivery via Intune. It was exciting to talk to a variety of different organisations about adding our APIs to their workflows and processes.
“The management of the event was second to none with professional organisation and well-orchestrated timing that provided opportunities to hear from globally-recognised industry speakers.
“It was also great to talk to other companies that sponsored the event and to meet them the night before at a private sponsors’ dinner. This type of networking opportunity matters. It makes a huge difference being able to collaborate and talk to like-minded technical teams, meet up with some old friends, and make new contacts.
“And now we are already looking forward to next year. It looks like it is going to be a broader event covering EUC and DEX, both of which are areas that are also important to us at Access IT Automation. We can’t wait!”
